NORTH EAST MEGA FOOD PARK
The Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MOFPI) has launched a scheme for establishment of Green Field Mega Food Parks in the country during the 11th Five Year Plan with the objective of providing adequate infrastructure for the food processing industry along with the value chain from the farm to the market. MOFPI accorded final approval to the North East Mega Food Park Ltd.(SPV) and disbursed an amount of Rs. 5.00 crores to the company for implementation of the project. Tihu covering 50 acres of land supported by a network of six Primary Processing Centres (PPC) and 19 Collection Centres(CC) spread across the entire NE Region. Agro Marketing Hub- Mega Food Park- Retail Chain Commensurate with the growing trend of horticulture production in the state, steps have been taken to set-up an Agro Marketing Hub near the state capital Guwahati which will be forward linked with a Mega Food Park and a Retail Market Chain. A food processing park at Chaygaon, located at a distance of 40 km from Guwahati is also under implementation in the district of Kamrup.
